Timber choices
I handcraft all my pieces from premium hardwoods, with the sole exception of bamboo, which I use exclusively for my kitchen utensils.
My preference is to work with seasoned timber of local origin. I proudly source much of my wood from Fallen and Felled in Camden, which mills urban trees felled in and around the London area.
To complement this, I also procure fine North American and European hardwoods from trusted local timber merchants, including E Roberts in Edmonton and DW General Wood Machinists in Tottenham.
When choosing the timber for your bespoke piece, I invite you to consider a few factors:
-
Locally Sourced Wood: Choosing trees repurposed from the London environs lowers your carbon footprint and often provides a deeper emotional attachment to the item, though it can drive up material costs.
-
Imported Hardwoods: Selecting European or North American timber offers beautiful, consistent results and may be more cost-effective.
Ultimately, whether you opt for hyper-local urban wood or imported timber, investing in a handcrafted piece ensures you are choosing a sustainable, long-lasting alternative to commercially produced homeware and furniture.
If you want, let me know:

Are you interested in a specific aesthetic (e.g., light vs. dark wood)?
