I came to woodwork crafting after a successful career in the NHS.  All of my life I have had a love of wood, dating back to my final year at school when I designed and made a wooden cot for my niece in my woodwork class.  Many years have passed since then but the interest in the craft has not waned. I trained at Building Craft College, East London  as a mature student, where I completed the Diploma in Fine Furniture.

After completing my course I founded AnnaCornish Essentially Wood to devote my energies full time to creating individual and long lasting pieces at affordable prices. In this process my interests and life experience have come to inform the design, making and the final product. I can be found most of the working week at Blackhorse Workshop, a community space based in Walthamstow, where I have a full time studio.

I have two strands to my work, Handmade Furniture, and Home Essentials.  

 

I make small pieces of furniture, that are designed to be created quickly, thereby keeping the costs down and enabling many of my customers to own handmade hard wood furniture without breaking the bank. I use a variety of hardwoods such as Ash, London Plane, Ash and Cherry and will aim to use any specific wood that a customer is particuarly interested in, if i can source it. My furniture is made to order and has a minimum of three weeks lead time dependant on current orders. 

 

The object of the Home Essential line is to translate the essential into an object of beauty whilst maintaining the functionality.

I also design furniture for commercial manufacture and work as a partime compliance manager at Blackhorse Workshop, Walthamstowe, London.
